Violent Gang Member Convicted

On October 27th, 2018, Montebello Police Officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Neil Armstrong regarding an assault that had just occurred. Upon arriving at the location, officers located a female victim who had sustained serious injuries to her head and face. Officers determined the victim had been violently attacked and the assault was related to a prior altercation from a few years ago. Detectives later learned the victim's injuries were more severe than originally observed. Her injuries included a broken nose, fractured orbital bones, soft tissue damage and a serious injury to her hip. As a result of the injuries, the victim endured several surgeries and for several months had to utilize a walker.

Throughout the investigation, Montebello Police Department Detectives were assisted by the victim and were able to identify the suspect as Eduardo Gomez. Detectives filed a criminal case against Gomez and learned he was already in custody for an armed robbery in another jurisdiction. Gomez is a documented gang member from the East Los Angeles area and had recently served a 15-year prison sentence for his participation in the death of an infant in Montebello.

After many months, the case eventually made its way to trial and Gomez was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury. He was subsequently sentenced to 20 years in prison.
